Cherry Hill native Dominic Piperno always knew that he wanted to open his own restaurant. It was no surprise that he put his heart and soul into finding a great space in the neighborhood he calls home and opened Hearthside in Collingswood, NJ.

As a child, he loved cooking with his grandmothers, (one Italian, the other German). His grandmothers taught him about the importance of cooking with quality ingredients & he developed a strong understanding of Mediterranean cuisine. After obtaining a Bachelor’s in business from St. Michael's College he moved New York City to attend The French Culinary Institute. He traveled to Italy and studied at ALMA International School Of Italian Cuisine, in Parma. While in Italy, he worked at a small family-owned restaurant ALbergaccio di Castellini and Castellina in Chianti where he honed in on the art of pasta and bread. He then moved to Costa Rica where he helped open a seafood grill. He then moved home to the Philadelphia area where he worked at at Zeppoli under Joey Baldino, one of the area's most celebrated Italian chefs. In early 2014, he started working at Vernick. Piperno helped elevate the pasta program while there.
In 2017, Dominic opened his own restaurant, Hearthside BYOB, located on Haddon Avenue in Collingswood, NJ. Hearthside is a contemporary American restaurant with a focus on the wood-fire and house made pasta. He spends his evenings on the line and takes great pleasure on helping new, young, eager chefs like himself grow.
